Course Curriculum Outline Level IV Essential Oil Chemistry 101 Course The focus of this course is to introduce the student to basic chemistry of essential oils based on the main chemical components within essential oils. Essential oils are comprised of many different biochemical constituents; these components give essential oils both their therapeutic properties and safety cautions. Students will learn the importance of knowing the chemical makeup of an essential oil as well as specific chemotypes for making choices when selecting which essential oils to use of not use. This Course Module Will Cover:

  • Basic science of essential oils and why it is an integral part of aromatherapy
  • The what, why and how of chemistry as it applies to essential oils
  • How essential oils are extracted-its effect on chemical composition
  • Essential oil constituents, structure and their therapeutic properties
  • Essential oil analysis-what’s in the bottle
  • What are chemotypes, synergies and more.
